Make the popular, flavorful seasoned rice side dish from Texas Roadhouse at home using this simple copycat recipe.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon turmeric (for color)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the chicken broth, butter, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and turmeric. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the rinsed and drained rice to the boiling liquid. Stir once.
  4. Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan tightly, and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes, or until all the liquid is absorbed and the rice is tender. Do not lift the lid during this time.
  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it stand, covered, for 5 minutes.
  6. Fluff the rice gently with a fork before serving.

Notes

  • Using chicken broth instead of water provides the primary savory flavor base.
  • Turmeric is used sparingly just to achieve the signature yellow hue of the restaurant version.
  • For extra flavor, you can sauté 1 tablespoon of finely minced onion in the butter before adding the broth.
