Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 pound white chocolate, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 1/4 cup crushed candy canes

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. Melt the butter and unsweetened chocolate together in a double boiler or in the microwave. Stir until smooth.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the sugar and eggs until well combined.
  4. Pour the melted chocolate mixture into the sugar and egg mixture and stir until smooth.
  5. Add the vanilla extract and mix.
  6. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and cocoa powder.
  7. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  8. Stir in the semisweet chocolate chips.
  9. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs.
  11. While the brownies are baking, prepare the peppermint bark topping. Melt the white chocolate in a double boiler or microwave.
  12. Stir the peppermint extract into the melted white chocolate.
  13. Pour the white chocolate mixture over the warm brownies and spread evenly.
  14. Immediately sprinkle the crushed candy canes over the white chocolate.
  15. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before cutting.

Notes

  • For a fudgier brownie, bake for a shorter time. For a cakier brownie, bake a few minutes longer.
  • Ensure the white chocolate is completely melted and smooth before adding the peppermint extract.
  • Crush the candy canes finely for even distribution.
