Enjoy the rich, savory flavor of a classic Philly Cheesesteak made easy in just one skillet. We skip the bread for a low-carb meal that keeps the authentic taste and that perfect, gooey cheese melt you crave. Richard remembers the best versions, and we captured them here for you.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound thinly sliced steak (ribeye or sirloin)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 8 ounces sliced mushrooms
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 4 slices Provolone cheese or American cheese
  • 1/4 cup beef broth

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the sliced steak to the skillet. Cook quickly, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned. Remove the steak and set it aside.
  3. Add the sliced onions, bell pepper, and mushrooms to the same skillet. Cook, stirring often, until the vegetables are softened and lightly browned, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  4. Return the cooked steak to the skillet with the vegetables. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Stir to combine everything.
  5. Pour the beef broth over the mixture and let it simmer for 1 minute.
  6. Reduce the heat to low. Place the cheese slices evenly over the steak and vegetable mixture.
  7. Cover the skillet and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, or until the cheese is completely melted and gooey.
  8. Serve immediately, directly from the skillet, enjoying every cheesy bite.

Notes

  • For the most authentic flavor, use thinly sliced ribeye steak.
  • You can substitute Provolone with Mozzarella for a milder taste.
  • If you prefer more heat, add a dash of hot sauce with the beef broth.
