Ingredients
Scale
2 ounces Bourbon or Rye Whiskey
1 sugar cube (or 1 teaspoon granulated sugar)
2 dashes Angostura bitters
1 splash water (optional)
Orange peel, for garnish
Instructions
Place the sugar cube in an old-fashioned glass.
Add the bitters over the sugar. Add a splash of water if you prefer.
Muddle the sugar and bitters together until the sugar dissolves into a paste.
Add the whiskey to the glass.
Fill the glass with ice.
Stir the mixture well until chilled.
Express the oils from the orange peel over the drink by twisting it, then drop the peel into the glass as a garnish.
Notes
Richard prefers rye whiskey for a spicier note.
If you use granulated sugar, make sure it dissolves completely when muddling.
Always use fresh citrus for the best aromatic oils.
