Ingredients
Scale
2 tuna steaks (about 6 oz each)
1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
In a shallow dish, whisk together the soy sauce, lime juice, sesame oil, grated ginger, minced garlic, brown sugar, and black pepper. This creates your flavorful tuna steak marinade.
Place the tuna steaks into the marinade, turning to coat both sides completely.
Cover the dish and refrigerate. Marinate for 15 to 30 minutes. Do not marinate longer than 30 minutes, as the acid in the lime juice can begin to change the texture of the fish.
Remove the tuna from the marinade and pat the steaks dry with paper towels before cooking. Discard the remaining marinade.
Sear or grill the tuna steaks according to your preference for a perfect finish.
Notes
For a spicier kick, add 1/2 teaspoon of sriracha or a pinch of red pepper flakes to the marinade mixture.
If you are grilling, lightly oil your grates before placing the tuna on them to prevent sticking.
This marinade works well for quick flavor on any firm fish steak, like swordfish or mahi-mahi.
