- 1 box white cake mix (plus ingredients listed on box)
- 1 (3 ounce) package Jello (your choice of flavor/color)
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup cold water
- 1 cup boiling water (additional)
- 1 cup cold water (additional)
- 1 (8 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
- Prepare and bake the white cake according to the package directions using a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- While the cake bakes, prepare the Jello. In a separate bowl, dissolve one package of Jello in 1 cup of boiling water. Stir for two minutes.
- Add 1 cup of cold water to the dissolved Jello mixture and stir briefly. Set aside to cool slightly.
- Once the cake is baked, let it cool in the pan for about 15 minutes.
- Use the handle of a wooden spoon or a large fork to poke holes all over the top of the warm cake. Space the holes about one inch apart.
- Carefully pour the slightly cooled liquid Jello mixture evenly over the entire surface of the cake, allowing it to soak into the holes.
- Refrigerate the cake for at least 3 to 4 hours, or until the Jello is completely set.
- Before serving, spread the thawed whipped topping evenly over the set Jello layer.
- Slice and serve cold.
Notes
- For a festive look, use red and green Jello for Christmas or several different colors for a rainbow effect.
- You can substitute the whipped topping with a cream cheese frosting if you prefer a denser topping.
- Make this cake the day before serving for maximum moisture absorption.
