Make a thick, icy, and refreshing blueberry lemonade slush at home using fresh or frozen blueberries and real lemon juice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups ice cubes
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 4-5 lemons)
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine the sugar and water in a small saucepan. Heat gently, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely to make a simple syrup. Let the syrup cool completely.
  2. Place the ice cubes, frozen blueberries, fresh lemon juice, cooled simple syrup, and lemon zest (if using) into a high-powered blender.
  3. Start blending on a low speed, gradually increasing to high speed. Use the tamper if necessary to push the ingredients toward the blades.
  4. Blend until the mixture is smooth but still thick and icy, resembling a slush consistency. Do not over-blend into a liquid smoothie.
  5. Taste the slush and add more simple syrup or lemon juice if needed to balance the flavor.
  6. Pour immediately into chilled glasses and serve with a straw.

Notes

  • For a sweeter slush, increase the simple syrup slightly. For a tarter flavor, add more lemon juice.
  • If you do not have frozen blueberries, use fresh blueberries and add an extra 1/2 cup of ice cubes.
  • To make this ahead, blend the mixture slightly thinner and freeze it in a shallow container for 1 hour, then briefly re-blend before serving.
