Recreate the beloved Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups at home with this easy recipe. These homemade treats are even better than the store-bought version, offering a perfect balance of creamy peanut butter and rich chocolate.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups milk chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable shortening (optional, for smoother chocolate)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine peanut butter, softened butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix until well combined and smooth.
  2. Press the peanut butter mixture evenly into the bottom of a parchment-lined 8×8 inch baking dish.
  3. Chill the peanut butter layer in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or until firm.
  4. Melt the chocolate chips with the shortening (if using) in a heatproof bowl over a saucepan of simmering water, or in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between. Stir until smooth.
  5. Pour the melted chocolate evenly over the chilled peanut butter layer.
  6. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or until the chocolate is completely set.
  7. Once firm, lift the chocolate and peanut butter slab out of the baking dish using the parchment paper.
  8. Cut into squares or use a round cookie cutter to create cup shapes.
  9. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Notes

  • For a smoother chocolate coating, add vegetable shortening to the chocolate chips before melting.
  • Ensure the peanut butter layer is firm before adding the chocolate to prevent them from mixing.
  • Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less powdered sugar to the peanut butter filling.
