This is our simple, fresh recipe for homemade guacamole, just like we tasted it on our travels. You will mix ripe avocados with bright lime, fresh cilantro, and onion for a chunky dip that beats any store-bought version. It is perfect for scooping with chips or topping your favorite tacos.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ripe avocados
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/2 jalapeño, finely minced (optional)
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Cut the avocados in half and remove the pits. Scoop the flesh into a medium bowl.
  2. Add the lime juice immediately to the avocado.
  3. Mash the avocado coarsely with a fork until you reach your desired chunkiness. You want texture, not mush.
  4. Stir in the chopped red onion, cilantro, and optional jalapeño.
  5. Add salt to your taste preference.
  6. Mix everything gently to combine. Do not overmix.
  7. Serve immediately with tortilla chips or use as a topping.

Notes

  • To keep your guacamole green longer, press a piece of plastic wrap directly onto the surface before refrigerating.
  • Use only very ripe avocados for the best creamy texture.
  • If you skip the jalapeño, the flavor remains mild and refreshing.
