Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt (plain, full-fat suggested)
  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 large egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 teaspoon everything bagel seasoning (optional)
  • Water (for boiling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix the Greek yogurt and self-rising flour until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead briefly, about 3 to 5 minutes, until the dough is smooth. Do not overwork it.
  4. Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces.
  5. Roll each piece into a rope about 8 inches long. Bring the ends together and pinch firmly to seal, forming a bagel shape.
  6. Bring a pot of water to a boil. Carefully drop the bagels into the boiling water, one or two at a time. Boil for 1 minute per side.
  7. Remove the boiled bagels with a slotted spoon and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Brush the tops of the bagels with the beaten egg wash. Sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning, if using.
  9. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the bagels are golden brown and cooked through.
  10. Cool on a wire rack before slicing and enjoying.

Notes

  • Use thick, good quality Greek yogurt for the best texture.
  • The boiling step helps set the crust and gives the bagel its familiar texture.
  • If you do not have self-rising flour, substitute 1 cup all-purpose flour with 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder and ¼ teaspoon salt.
