Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 racks of pork spare ribs
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup paprika
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C) or prepare your grill for indirect heat.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt to create a dry rub.
  3. Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs if present.
  4. Generously coat both sides of the ribs with the dry rub.
  5. Wrap the ribs tightly in aluminum foil.
  6. Place the wrapped ribs on a baking sheet and bake in the oven for 2.5 to 3 hours, or until tender. If grilling, place the wrapped ribs on the indirect heat side of the grill for the same amount of time.
  7. Carefully remove the ribs from the foil.
  8. In a small bowl, whisk together the BBQ sauce and apple cider vinegar.
  9. Brush the BBQ sauce mixture over the ribs.
  10. Return the ribs to the oven or grill for another 15-20 minutes, or until the sauce has caramelized and the ribs are ready to serve.
  11. Let the ribs rest for a few minutes before cutting and serving.

Notes

  • For an extra layer of flavor, you can add a splash of your favorite hot sauce to the BBQ sauce mixture.
  • If you prefer crispier ribs, you can uncover them for the last 10-15 minutes of cooking in the oven to allow them to crisp up.
  • This recipe works well with both pork spare ribs and baby back ribs. Adjust cooking time as needed for different rib types.
  • The dry rub can be made ahead of time and stored in an airtight container.
