Create a delightful Eggnog French Toast Casserole that can be prepared ahead of time, perfect for holiday mornings. This recipe brings together the comforting flavors of eggnog and French toast in an easy-to-bake dish. It’s a wonderful way to make special occasions even more memorable.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf (1 pound) challah or brioche bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups eggnog
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • Optional toppings: whipped cream, extra cinnamon, maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Arrange the bread cubes in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, eggnog, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
  3. Pour the eggnog mixture evenly over the bread cubes, ensuring all pieces are moistened. Press down gently to help them soak up the liquid.
  4. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the bread to soak.
  5. When ready to bake, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Drizzle the melted butter over the top of the casserole.
  7. Bake uncovered for 40-50 minutes, or until the casserole is puffed up, golden brown, and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
  9. Serve warm with your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use a good quality eggnog.
  • If you don’t have challah or brioche, a sturdy white bread can be used, but it may be less rich.
  • Ensure the bread is slightly stale for best results, as it will absorb the liquid better without becoming too mushy.
