Make extra crispy chicken wings in your air fryer that stay juicy inside. This simple recipe uses baking powder for guaranteed crunch in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs chicken wings (flats and drumettes)
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder (aluminum-free preferred)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken wings very dry using paper towels. This step is crucial for crispiness.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the baking powder, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and paprika.
  3. Add the dried wings to the spice mixture. Toss well until every piece is evenly coated with the dry rub.
  4. Preheat your air fryer to 380 degrees Fahrenheit (195 degrees Celsius) for 5 minutes.
  5. Arrange the wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring there is space between them for air circulation. Do not overcrowd the basket; work in batches if necessary.
  6. Air fry for 15 minutes at 380 degrees Fahrenheit (195 degrees Celsius).
  7. Flip the wings. Increase the temperature to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius) and cook for an additional 8 to 10 minutes, or until the skin is deep golden brown and very crispy.
  8. Remove from the air fryer and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use aluminum-free baking powder for the best results with the crisping agent.
  • For extra flavor, you can toss the cooked wings in your favorite sauce after they come out of the air fryer.
  • If you do not have an air fryer, you can bake these wings on a wire rack set over a baking sheet at 425 degrees Fahrenheit for 40-45 minutes, flipping halfway.
