Make an authentic tasting Sausage Egg McMuffin at home using this recipe that replicates the specific sausage flavor, round egg, and soft muffin texture.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 English muffins
  • 8 ounces ground pork sausage
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground sage
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground dried thyme
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 4 large eggs
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Mix the ground pork with salt, pepper, sage, thyme, and allspice in a bowl. Form the mixture into 4 thin, round patties slightly larger than the English muffins.
  2. Cook the sausage patties in a skillet over medium heat for 3 to 4 minutes per side, until fully cooked. Remove and keep warm.
  3. Prepare the eggs using a round egg ring mold placed in a non-stick skillet lightly coated with oil or butter. Crack one egg into the ring. Cook until the whites are set, about 2 minutes. Flip carefully and cook for 30 seconds more. Remove the ring. Repeat for the remaining eggs.
  4. Slice the English muffins in half. Brush the cut sides lightly with melted butter. Toast them lightly on a griddle or in a toaster until warm and slightly crisp on the edges, keeping the interior soft.
  5. Assemble the sandwich: Place one slice of American cheese on the bottom half of a muffin. Top with a cooked sausage patty, followed by one cooked egg. Place the top half of the muffin on the egg.
  6. For the soft texture, you can briefly steam the assembled sandwich in a microwave for 10 seconds or wrap it in a damp paper towel and microwave for 15 seconds. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • To mimic the McDonald’s texture, do not over-toast the English muffins; you want them soft and slightly chewy.
  • Use a standard ring mold or cut a circle from a clean metal can to shape the eggs perfectly.
  • The specific spice blend (sage, thyme, allspice) is key to replicating the sausage flavor.
