This is the classic Margarita recipe, just as we first tasted it in Mexico. It is simple, bright, and tangy. You will need fresh lime juice for the best flavor. We remember this taste instantly transporting us back to that sunny street corner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ounces Tequila (Blanco or Reposado)
  • 1 ounce Fresh Lime Juice
  • 3/4 ounce Orange Liqueur (Triple Sec or Cointreau)
  • Coarse Salt (for rimming the glass)
  • Lime wedge (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your glass: Rub a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks glass. Roll the outer rim in coarse salt. Fill the glass with ice and set aside.
  2. Combine ingredients: In a cocktail shaker, combine the tequila, fresh lime juice, and orange liqueur.
  3. Add ice: Fill the shaker three-quarters full with ice.
  4. Shake well: Close the shaker tightly and shake vigorously until the outside is very cold, about 15-20 seconds.
  5. Strain: Strain the mixture into your prepared, ice-filled glass.
  6. Garnish: Add a fresh lime wedge to the rim. Enjoy this taste of memory!

Notes

  • Always use freshly squeezed lime juice; bottled juice changes the flavor completely.
  • We prefer Blanco tequila for its clean taste in this classic preparation.
  • If you prefer it served ‘up’ (without ice), skip step 1 and chill a coupe or martini glass instead.
  • Adjust the lime juice slightly based on the tartness of your specific limes.
