Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 12 slices brioche or challah bread, cut into 1-inch thick sticks
  • 2 tablespoons butter or oil for cooking
  • Optional toppings: maple syrup, powdered sugar, fruit

Instructions

  1. In a shallow dish, whisk together milk, eggs, cinnamon, and vanilla extract.
  2. Dip each bread stick into the egg mixture, coating all sides.
  3. Heat butter or oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  4. Cook the bread sticks for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through.
  5. Remove from skillet and let cool completely on a wire rack.
  6. Once cooled, arrange the French toast sticks in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until solid.
  7. Transfer the frozen sticks to a freezer-safe bag or container.
  8. To reheat, place frozen sticks in a toaster or oven at 350°F (175°C) for a few minutes until warmed through.

Notes

  • For best results, use slightly stale bread as it absorbs the egg mixture better.
  • You can add a pinch of nutmeg to the egg mixture for extra flavor.
  • Ensure French toast sticks are completely cooled before freezing to prevent them from sticking together.
  • These sticks can be stored in the freezer for up to 1 month.
