Make this easy, make-ahead red wine sangria featuring seasonal fruits like apple, orange, and cranberry, spiced with cinnamon for a perfect holiday party drink.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (750 ml) bottle dry red wine (like Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon)
  • 1/2 cup brandy
  • 1/4 cup orange liqueur (like Cointreau or Triple Sec)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large orange, sliced
  • 1 large apple (such as Honeycrisp or Fuji), cored and chopped
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/2 cup sparkling water or club soda (for serving)

Instructions

  1. In a large pitcher or punch bowl, combine the red wine, brandy, orange liqueur, and sugar. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely.
  2. Add the sliced orange, chopped apple, cranberries, and cinnamon sticks to the wine mixture.
  3. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the fruit flavors to infuse the wine.
  4. When ready to serve, taste the sangria. If you prefer it sweeter, add a little more sugar and stir.
  5. Pour the sangria into glasses filled with ice. Top each glass with a splash of sparkling water or club soda for fizz.
  6. Garnish each serving with a fresh orange slice or a few extra cranberries.

Notes

  • For a White Christmas Sangria variation, substitute the red wine with a dry white wine like Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc, and use lemon slices instead of orange.
  • You can substitute the brandy with spiced rum for a different flavor profile.
  • Prepare the fruit mixture and wine base up to 24 hours in advance. Add the sparkling water just before serving so the drink retains its bubbles.
