- 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- Place the chopped chocolate in a medium, heatproof bowl.
- In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer around the edges. Do not let it boil.
- Pour the hot cream over the chopped chocolate. Let it sit undisturbed for 5 minutes to melt the chocolate.
- Add the butter, vanilla extract, and salt to the bowl.
- Whisk the mixture slowly, starting from the center and moving outward, until the sauce is completely smooth and velvety.
- Transfer the fondue to a small fondue pot or a slow cooker set to low to keep it warm.
- Serve immediately with your preferred dipping items.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, substitute 1/4 cup of the heavy cream with strong brewed coffee or espresso.
- If the fondue becomes too thick while serving, whisk in a teaspoon of warm milk or cream until the desired consistency returns.
- Keep the heat low to prevent the chocolate from scorching or seizing.
