Make restaurant-style chicken lettuce wraps at home quickly using ground chicken and a savory sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 4 ounces water chestnuts, drained and chopped
  • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 head butter lettuce, leaves separated and washed
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the ground chicken to the skillet. Cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until it is browned and cooked through, about 5 to 7 minutes. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Add the chopped water chestnuts, mushrooms, minced garlic, and grated ginger to the skillet with the chicken. Cook for 2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and black pepper.
  5. Pour the sauce mixture over the chicken and vegetable mixture. Stir well to coat everything evenly. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  6. Remove the skillet from the heat.
  7. Spoon the chicken filling into the center of each butter lettuce leaf.
  8. Garnish with sliced green onions before serving.

Notes

  • Use iceberg or romaine lettuce if you prefer a crispier cup instead of butter lettuce.
  • For a spicier filling, add 1 teaspoon of sriracha to the sauce mixture.
  • You can substitute ground turkey for ground chicken if desired.
