Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs white fish fillets (such as cod or tilapia)
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon paprika
  • 0.25 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 8-10 corn or flour tortillas
  • For the Creamy Lime Slaw:
  • 3 cups shredded cabbage mix (green and red cabbage, carrots)
  • 0.5 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon honey or sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional Garnishes: chopped cilantro, diced avocado, hot sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a small bowl, mix together chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and pepper.
  3. Pat the fish fillets dry with paper towels. Sprinkle the spice mixture evenly over both sides of the fish.
  4. Heat olive oil in an oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the fish for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  5. Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 8-12 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
  6. While the fish is baking, prepare the slaw. In a medium bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, lime juice, honey, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  7. Add the shredded cabbage mix to the bowl and toss to coat evenly.
  8. Once the fish is cooked, remove it from the oven. Gently flake the fish into bite-sized pieces using two forks.
  9. Warm the tortillas according to package directions.
  10. Assemble the tacos by filling each tortilla with flaked fish and a generous portion of the creamy lime slaw.
  11. Add your favorite optional garnishes.

Notes

  • You can also grill or pan-fry the fish if you prefer.
  • Adjust the amount of cayenne pepper to control the spice level.
  • For a lighter slaw, you can use Greek yogurt instead of mayonnaise, or a combination of both.
