Ingredients
Scale
8 oz string cheese, cut into 2-inch pieces
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2 large eggs, beaten
1 cup panko breadcrumbs
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Cooking spray
Instructions
Place the cut string cheese pieces on a plate lined with parchment paper and freeze for at least 1 hour.
In a shallow bowl, combine flour. In another shallow bowl, whisk the eggs. In a third shallow bowl, combine panko breadcrumbs, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Dredge each frozen cheese stick first in the flour, shaking off excess. Then dip into the beaten eggs, letting excess drip off. Finally, coat thoroughly with the panko mixture.
Place the breaded cheese sticks back on the parchment-lined plate and freeze for another 30 minutes.
Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (190°C).
Arrange the frozen mozzarella sticks in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring they don’t touch. You may need to cook in batches.
Lightly spray the mozzarella sticks with cooking spray.
Air fry for 6-8 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
Serve immediately with your favorite marinara sauce.
Notes
Ensure the cheese sticks are well-frozen before breading and again before air frying for the best results and to prevent cheese leakage.
Adjust cooking time based on your air fryer model.
For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of Italian seasoning to the panko mixture.
