Make exceptionally crispy garlic dill pickles in your air fryer. This recipe uses a simple breading technique for maximum crunch without deep frying.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 jar (16 ounces) dill pickle chips or spears
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried dill weed
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (for coating)
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried dill weed (for coating)
  • Cooking spray (oil-based)

Instructions

  1. Remove pickles from the brine and pat them completely dry using paper towels. This step is important for crispiness.
  2. Set up a standard breading station with three shallow dishes.
  3. In the first dish, combine the flour, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon dried dill, salt, and pepper.
  4. Place the beaten eggs in the second dish.
  5. In the third dish, mix the panko breadcrumbs with the remaining 1 teaspoon garlic powder and 1/2 teaspoon dried dill.
  6. Dredge each dry pickle piece first in the flour mixture, shaking off excess.
  7. Dip the floured pickle into the egg, letting excess drip off.
  8. Coat thoroughly in the panko mixture, pressing gently so the crumbs adhere well.
  9. Preheat your air fryer to 390°F (200°C) for 5 minutes.
  10. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray.
  11. Arrange the coated pickles in a single layer in the basket, ensuring they do not touch. Work in batches if necessary.
  12. Spray the tops of the pickles lightly with cooking spray.
  13. Air fry for 8 to 10 minutes, flipping halfway through. Check at 8 minutes; they should be golden brown and crisp.
  14. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, you can double-dip the pickles: coat in flour, dip in egg, coat in panko, then dip back into the egg, and coat again in panko.
  • If you use pickle spears instead of chips, increase the cooking time by 1 to 2 minutes.
  • Use a high-smoke-point oil spray for the best results.
