Ingredients
Scale
4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 large egg
1 large egg yolk
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
Pinch of salt
Instructions
Chop the chocolate and place it in a microwave-safe bowl with the butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth. Set aside to cool slightly.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, egg yolk, and granulated sugar until pale and slightly thickened. Whisk in the vanilla extract.
Gently fold the cooled chocolate mixture into the egg mixture.
Sift the flour and salt over the batter. Fold until just combined. Do not overmix.
Lightly grease two small ramekins (about 4-ounce size). Divide the batter evenly between them.
Preheat your air fryer to 370°F (188°C).
Carefully place the ramekins in the air fryer basket.
Air fry for 9 to 11 minutes. The edges should look set, but the center should still be soft for a lava flow.
Let the cakes rest in the ramekins for 1 minute before inverting onto serving plates. Serve immediately.
Notes
We use high-quality dark chocolate to get the best flavor.
For a richer taste, try adding a tiny pinch of espresso powder to the chocolate mixture.
If you don’t have ramekins, you can use oven-safe small custard cups.
Check the cakes at 9 minutes; air fryer temperatures vary widely.
