Ingredients
Scale
3 medium apples (like Honeycrisp or Fuji)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon maple syrup (optional)
Pinch of ground nutmeg (optional)
Instructions
Preheat your air fryer to 300°F (150°C).
Wash and core the apples. Do not peel them; the skin adds texture.
Slice the apples very thinly, aiming for about 1/16 inch thickness. Richard suggests using a mandoline for consistency, but a very sharp knife works too.
In a bowl, gently toss the apple slices with cinnamon, nutmeg, and maple syrup, if using.
Arrange the apple slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd the basket; work in batches if needed.
Air fry for 8 to 12 minutes. Stop halfway through to flip the slices.
Continue cooking until the edges curl slightly and the chips are dry. Cooking time varies based on thickness and air fryer model.
Remove the chips and let them cool completely on a wire rack. They will crisp up as they cool.
Notes
For the crispiest chips, aim for slices no thicker than a nickel. Thicker slices will result in chewier results.
If your chips are still soft after cooling, return them to the air fryer for another 2-4 minutes at the same temperature.
We often skip the maple syrup when we want a purely natural sweet flavor.
These chips store best in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
